Prayer from June 08, 2020
Lord,
After listening to the teaching given by Latasha Morrison on racial reconciliation and the theology of lament, I found myself so deeply convicted by the prayer of lament, and by the importance of truth, lament, and praise in hope.
Your gospel unifies truth and transformation, praise and lament.
It is my salvation, and Jesus is my living hope.
What a lesson when I recognize that the patterns of this world is what I do not choose to follow. Rather, your word says that my mind must be renewed. I must unlearn these patterns and relearn your way instead.
What are some current patterns of this world today?
My worth is in my teaching/ writing/ life accomplishments: what I do or say or achieve.
--Lie? Yes, because I am created in the image of God. More than that, even if I can do nothing, say nothing, accomplish nothing, Christ still chose to die for me and still declares me worthy.
On racial injustices: if it doesn't apply to me personally, then it's "not my issue."
--Lie? Yes, because Jesus committed no sin, yet he still applied his very blood in exchange for a personal relationship with me. The things (like racial injustice) that concern God personally must concern me personally.
God, discord and disunity grieve you.
Holy Spirit, help me to relearn, to be transformed by your Word, to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly in all aspects of my life this day and each day hereafter. Jesus, forgive me for when and where I have not. Please show me the places in my life where I am blind to my own sins.
amen.
