My Life is a Whirlwind
Before almost every discipleship meeting with my students, we do an icebreaker that I call "Mountains & Valleys." Basically, each girl shares what has been the highest point (mountain) and the lowest point (valley) of her week. Looking with hindsight at this past month and half, I feel like I have been sliding from mountains to valleys at breakneck speed.
Although I'm emotionally, mentally and physically healthy, I am looking forward to the slower pace of December and the opportunity to re-focus before the semester begins in January.
And, November has flown by!
Is it really December?
So, without further ado, here are the "Mountains & Valleys" of the past 6 weeks--

Two weekends ago, my teammate Ben was baptized at the local church we attend in Santo Domingo. Ben grew up in a Methodist church, but received Christ when he was a teenager. Due to this, he had never been baptized, so he participated in the baptism class at our church here and was dunked in the holy waters along to a merengue, movin' and shakin' version of "I Have Decided to Follow Jesus" in spanish. Below are some photos from this day and the celebratory lunch with students after the service.

Okay, let's be honest, this day was more of a plateau. Mostly because it was a wonderful time of fellowship, good memories and good food with my team, but I still sipped the bittersweet dregs of homesickness throughout the day.
I'm talking about Thanksgiving, people.
But, don't worry, the Dallas Cowboys won, I ate a jartura (spanish for a "big freaking lot") of food, and watched the Macy's Day Parade with people who love me and care for me like family. And that's what really matters.
A special THANKS to my teammates and Leyla + Prospero for helping to make Thanksgiving so fun! Y'all are the best and deserve nothing less than a standing ovation.

I'm currently writing this very same blog post while listening to Christmas music.
Sing it to me, Ole Blue Eyes!

Last Tuesday, we hosted the final Women's Outreach for the Vida Estudiantil ladies at UASD. Like my previous blog post states, I can't divulge any of what we discussed, but I can say that it was a time of laughter, of sorrow and of unity among the women who attended. It opened our eyes to the battle for purity we face as women; it opened our ears to the harsh reality of the family situation many of these women experience; and it opened our hearts to a deeper compassion and love for these students and this country.
Thank you for your prayers and please continue to pray for healing from the wounds of the past for these students.

A week ago, I went to UNPHU to meet for discipleship with a student there. As we discussed the importance of sharing the Gospel, I explained that evangelism isn't a specific time that we have on campus. It's an integral part of every moment of every day. We are always Christ's ambassadors. Praise God that as we discussed the difference in always being available to share the Gospel, I saw that light of deep understanding click on in the student's face!

"We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God." 2 Corinthians 5:20Thank you, again, for your prayers and encouragement for me this year, especially as I get to experience moments like this that remind me of why I'm here :)
